Producers of food TV don't just care if a guy can cook ― most stars of cooking shows these days have to be hot enough to make viewers' plasmas sweat. Behold, SFoodie's countdown of the eight sexiest male chefs currently taking up space on our DVRs, dudes with the power to sear our tenderloins with little more than a long, slow look into the camera. (Note to straight men and queer or bicurious women: Relax ― we'll be bringing you their estrogen-pumped counterparts in a future post.)
8. Ludo Lefebvre
He has tattoos, a hot French accent, and millions of men and women dying to taste his pop-up. Chef Ludo is the complete package, and he has a girl ― top lawyer, Apprentice contestant, and Playmate ― who'd make any straight guy green with envy. This L.A. power couple accept reservations on Twitter, and are taking pop-up phenomenon LudoBites around the country for a show called Ludo Bites America, debuting on the Sundance Channel this summer. Need a piece of this hot chef right now? Head to Bravo for Top Chef Masters reruns.
7. Jamie Oliver
Forever known as the Naked Chef, Oliver hasn't ever actually let himself be filmed naked (far as we know). Bummer. Oliver's a fine lad with a heart of gold, cute despite lacking any hint of a tan. His passion for fighting childhood obesity and bureaucratic school boards on Food Revolution makes us proud, though, and he'll always have that special boyish charm despite being the father of four. After all, his kids have names even unicorns napping under rainbows couldn't have dreamed up: Poppy Honey Rosie, Daisy Boo Pamela, Petal Blossom Rainbow, and Buddy Bear Maurice. Aww.
6. Rocco DiSpirito
DiSpirito was the star of one of the first food reality TV shows, The Restaurant. He was a hunk and a half, but what we remember most was wanting to try his mother's meatballs, the must-have dish at every table on the series. Boy, did they look good. Fast-forward a few years and it turns out something was looking even better: Match.com columnist Whitney Casey revealed that DiSpirito has the perfect penis ― "like a Viagra version of the statue of David," Casey told Howard Stern. Boy, does that sound good.
5. Michael Chiarello
Continuing the trend of Italian-American hotness on food TV is Michael Chiarello, a man handsome enough to model Eddie Bauer. Mr. NapaStyle has a face so chiseled he could easily be Mr. Brawny, one reason Chiarello can be seen everywhere on the tube, from Bravo and PBS to Cooking Channel and Fine Living Network.
4. Govind Armstrong
We're adding Armstrong to the list as a form of begging: Please, please let us see more of him on TV. Sure, he's been a guest judge on Top Chef and a contestant on Iron Chef, but that is simply not enough. Hello, cable network executives? This guy was one of People magazine's 50 Most Beautiful People in 2004. Let. Us. See. More.
3. Tyler Florence
TyFlo, as we like to call him when we're not referring to him as Jesus, is a hometown hero of sorts. The Mill Valley resident wears the kind of sweater vests that stoke our schoolgirl fantasies, yet he tweets about Ronny the Limo Driver and is partnering with Sammy Hagar. He's the perfect mix of hot and sweet, with just a touch of rocker credibility ― plus he can cook! We're so in love with Florence we take satisfaction from the fact that Wayfare Tavern's dessert menu now simply lists "carrot cake," instead of "Tolan's [his wife's] carrot cake." We are getting rid of that bitch one dish at a time.
2. Eric Ripert
Avec Eric goes by many names - our favorite is "the other silver fox." Ripert's counterpart is Anthony Bourdain, a man who might have made this list in years past but now looks a little haggard. Don't get us wrong: We still want Bourdain to grab our hair, make it smell like cigarettes and kiss us with whiskey breath. But if you plumped up his weathered face, pouted his lips, and put him on a diet of perfectly cooked fish and vegetables, you'd have Eric Ripert. Come to think of it he's the king of the silver foxes, putting even Anderson Cooper to shame. Let's put it this way ― we were jealous when we read on Twitter that Tablehopper had a dream about him.
1. Curtis Stone
The former Take Home Chef is a man that SFoodie has wanted to take home for a very long time. In our Pasadena days, we went broke stalking high-end grocery stores looking for Stone, just to see if we could take him home. Unfortunately, the day we finally met him we were wearing an "I Hate the Environment" shirt, which he hated. Oh well. Since then Stone has exploded, with a spot on Celebrity Apprentice, as a judge on America's Next Great Restaurant and now the host of Top Chef Masters. We'll follow this smoking-hot Aussie wherever he is on TV. Fun fact: His girlfriend was Janet on Beverly Hills, 90210.
