File this under “horrible things people do”: Ashlee Simpson is reportedly dating Craig Owens of D.R.U.G.S. This news come shortly after the announcement that Simpson and husband Pete Wentz had decided to file for divorce. But here’s the kicker: Owens and Wentz have been close friends for years and D.R.U.G.S. recently released their debut album on Wentz’s record label, Decaydance


In Touch initially reported on the new relationship, citing a source who saw Simpson and Owens together on a shopping trip at L.A.’s Beverly Center mall. The source told In Touch, “They were holding hands in the elevator and a lot of the time he had his arm around her. They even kissed each other on the lips. It was obvious that they were a couple.”


Owens and Wentz have been friends for years and Wentz has been very vocal about his support for Owens’ music. There was even some speculation last year that the pair would both be announced as members of Went’z new band Black Cards (this turned out to be a rumor). So needless to say, this isn’t the coolest move on Owens’ or Ashlee's part. This news also comes a few days after reports that Wentz and Simpson are headed to court to determine who will take custody of their two-year-old son Bronx.
Owens has not commented on the situation, however he did tweet this over the weekend: “Relationship 101 w/ @MattG00d -Best friends give advice & make the other feel better about life & love. Cherish & appreciate.”
About Simpson? We can only speculate, but in light of all this we are most certainly Team Pete.
